A criminal charge puts everything at risk. Ironside Criminal Defense helps people across South Carolina who have been accused of or charged with a crime understand what comes next and protect what matters most.

The firm
Ironside Criminal Defense is led by Sloan Ellis and Brandi Hinton, two former state and federal prosecutors who bring years of expertise in criminal law to the table. Our years on the other side of the courtroom shape how we approach every case.
We know how prosecutors think and how they build cases. Every client has a story, and we know how to tell yours, so the prosecutor reviewing your file sees the person behind it, not just the charge.
We are all one mistake away from where you are standing right now, and that one mistake should not decide the rest of your life. From the first conversation, we help you understand your rights, prepare you for each step, and stay beside you as you move forward.

Sometimes the strongest outcome is the one that no one hears. We focus on protecting our clients, not publicity.
A senior engineer working on a nuclear plant construction project faced a lengthy investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice, the FBI, and a State Grand Jury. Our attorneys represented him throughout it.
The founder of a nationally known South Carolina company was investigated in connection with a shooting. After reviewing the matter, the Solicitor determined that he had acted in self-defense and declined to file charges.
A dentist was accused of possession with intent to distribute cocaine, which brought both a criminal case and a proceeding before the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation. Our attorneys represented him in both. The criminal charges were dismissed, and he kept his dental license.
An employee of a federal contractor was the subject of a lengthy U.S. Department of Justice investigation involving multimillion-dollar set-aside contracts under the SBA 8(a) program. Our attorneys defended him through the investigation.
The former CEO and board chair of a subprime mortgage lending company faced one of the most complex securities fraud cases in South Carolina. Our attorneys served on the trial team that defended him.
NotePrior results do not guarantee a similar outcome. Every case is different and depends on its own facts.
Why Ironside
Seven things that shape how we take a case, and what you can expect from the first conversation onward.
You are not handed off. Sloan and Brandi manage every case the firm takes, and each of them spent years on the prosecutor's side, gaining experience and knowledge about the cases we now defend.
We tell you what is likely before it happens, including what you don't want to hear. If we are not the right fit for your case, we will tell you that too. You should never be surprised by a result, and you will never hear us promise one.
By the end of the first conversation, you will know what we intend to do, what we need from you, and what will happen next.
No two people are alike and no two cases are alike. Our plan to resolve your case is customized to your situation. We know what each case requires.
We make the first move. The prosecutor should see you as a person, not just a warrant. We are proactive to make sure the prosecutor knows who you are before reviewing your case.
Cost is usually the first question, and we answer it before you decide anything. If your case goes to trial, our fee does not go up.
We build long-lasting relationships with our clients. We often hear from them years later when they call to share how life is going, not to ask for help.
